Is there a way to mask a URL if you are using it in a field merge?

I'm using a URL for a field merge in an email and although it's fine to send the entire link, it would be great if it could be masked as something else like "Enroll Now" and have the specific URL behind the copy.  Is there a way to do this?  Would it be possible if I used a custom data object?
